Tea production for the month of May 2024 was lower by 3.35 Million kgs from 57.88 Million Kgs recorded during the same period of last year to 54.52 Million Kgs. Decline in production was attributed to excessive rainfall experienced in some parts of the tea growing regions in the West of Rift (Kericho) and within the East of Rift (Kiambu and Meru). Excessive rainfall was also characterized by incidences of hailstones in Kericho during the first two weeks of the month.Though the month of May Marks the cessation of the "Long-Rains" (March-April-May) season over most parts of the country. the rainfall recorded across the tea growing areas was above-normal (125-300% of the Long-Term Mean for the month).
